For decades, Idaho doctors have proudly provided evidence-based healthcare for families in every corner of our state. They deliver babies, support parents, and help neighbors through some of life’s hardest moments. But today, that care is under threat..
Politics is getting in the way of safe medical care.
No matter how you feel about abortion, laws and restrictions — including abortion bans and cuts to Medicaid — are making it harder for our healthcare workers to do their jobs and for our patients to get the care they need. They hurt our families, damage our economy, and threaten the very freedom we hold dear. And it’s rural communities who are feeling the impact the most.
Idaho is losing doctors – and families are paying the price.
Doctors are leaving: Idaho has lost 94 OB/GYNs since 2022 — a net 35% drop in just two years.
Pregnancy, miscarriage, and maternal care is harder to find: 43% of OBs who were here in 2022 no longer deliver babies in Idaho.
Women go without care in emergencies or emergency care is delayed by legal confusion: 42% of obstetricians who left moved out of state to avoid legal risks.
Families have fewer choices when it matters most: Outside our biggest counties, only 23 OBs are left to care for 569,000 Idahoans.
Why it matters
OB/GYNs save lives: OB/GYNs do more than deliver babies — they catch cancer early, treat pregnancy emergencies, and care for women throughout life.
Rural families are left behind: With only 23 OBs to serve 37 mostly rural counties, families living far from cities are being left behind—with fewer doctors, longer drives, and higher risks.
Safe Healthcare = Strong Idaho: Without doctors, it’s harder to keep jobs, schools, and businesses in town. Families and workers need care they can count on.
